The tactical use of airborne thermal imaging can be one of the most powerful tools available to law enforcement. With the FLIR Vision Awards, FLIR Systems strives to recognize state and local law enforcement agencies for their contributions to public safety through the use of tactical, airborne thermal imagery.

Awards Presentation

Awards will be presented on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the APSCON National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Footage from each winning video will be shown as part of the awards ceremony.
SECOND & THIRD PLACE
A generous donation to the Air Unit’s favorite charity, Vision Awards apparel and office plaques.
FIRST PLACE
A generous donation to the Air Unit’s favorite charity, a traveling trophy for the Air Unit to display, Vision Awards leather flight jackets and office plaques.
JUDGING CRITERIA
  1. Tactical use of EO/IR technology and the importance of the airborne imaging system in the successful completion of the mission.
  2. Ground coordination and communication audio is not required, however, it will receive consideration during judging if included.
  3. Overall importance of the mission or apprehension.
  4. Action and entertainment value.
OFFICIAL RULES
  1. All types of infrared and daylight videos will be considered for this award. The panel of judges will evaluate all video submissions and their decision is final.
  2. The deadline for video submissions is June 3, 2016.
  3. Videos should be submitted as uncompressed, original resolution, digital files (QuickTime or AVI preferred). Click here to fill out the entry form and upload your submission(s).
  4. By uploading your submission, you are agreeing to the following: The undersigned hereby authorizes FLIR Systems, Inc. (“FLIR”), with its principle place of business at 27700 SW Parkway Ave., Wilsonville, OR 97070, to use, reproduce, copy or reprint – in still picture or video format – in while, or edited for distribution purposes of FLIR product marketing and promotion, the material as described below. While maintaining the story line, permission is granted for FLIR to adapt the submitted footage for the Vision Awards ceremony entertainment purposes.
  5. Edit entries to no longer than 8 minutes total. If editing is not possible, please indicate the time frame(s) to be viewed on the footage time stamping.
  6. Submitted videos will not be returned.
  7. We welcome multiple entries from each department and airborne team.
  8. Enclose a brief outline of the incident and list the name, rank and position of each crew member via the online submission form.
  9. Any videos that have been restricted from prior years, due to evidentiary or departmental reasons, can be submitted for the 2015 Vision Awards.

Each year, we ask law enforcement to submit their video footage shot during rescues, pursuits, apprehensions, and surveillance operations. Entries should highlight the tactical use of EO/IR technology and the importance of the airborne imaging system in the successful completion of the mission.
